Marilyn Monroe reading Ulysses [pic]

Posted: August 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Interesting discoveries | 1 Comment »

How amazing is Ulysses? Amazing enough to have one of the greatest female star of all time reading it! This is our first time seeing a celebrity reading a classic.

We think everyone should read a classic novel or two, even celebrities.  :)

Whoa! Building made from thousands of books

Posted: August 27th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Interesting discoveries | No Comments »

This is amazing! An entire structure made from books.

We’ve covered Matej Kren’s amazing feats of book-stacking before, and now his largest book installation to date is on display in Italy at the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna (MAMbo). The piece, entitled “Scanner,” is a gigantic tunnel of books that is meant to inspire reflection, impose greatness, and confuse perspective.

Now that is one impressive book collection.

The War of the Worlds book cover collection

Posted: August 25th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Interesting discoveries | No Comments »

Yesterday, we wrote about our discovery of Bookcoverarchive.com. Today, we found a similar idea. Instead of a book cover gallery for all kinds of books, The War of the Worlds Book Cover Collection is dedicated to providing all past and present book covers from multiple countries for the popular book by H.G. Wells.

This cover was our favorite:

Our favorite The War of the Worlds book cover

Now that is one dedicated sci-fi fan.

This is one of our favorite discoveries so far!

Bookcoverarchive.com is exactly what it sounds. We feel silly even having to explain it, but here it is anyways: It is an online gallery that collects book covers. That’s all. Simple idea but extremely cool.

For those who judge a book by its cover, this is just the thing for you! Now, you can do it at the comfort of your own home.

International shipping!

Posted: August 19th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Business, Website | 1 Comment »

We are quite surprised to receive so many requests from our international customers across the world. Even more surprisingly, we have received many inquiries about shipping to non-native English speaking countries, considering the text on our posters are in English (or C – as in the case of our Linux kernel poster).

So, we are currently working with our shipping company to bring our posters to YOUR COUNTRY!

Stay tuned!

Pride and Prejudice Zombies

Posted: August 19th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Interesting discoveries | No Comments »

When researching for our Pride and Prejudice book poster we came across many references to zombies. Yes, very odd we know.

We later found the connection between the two: A novel (2009) written by Seth Grahame-Smith called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The book seems to be quite popular with all kinds of readers – even those who enjoy classics like the original novel.

Can you imagine scenarios like these?

Obviously, the book is meant to be a parody, and a very funny one too. The story follows the plot of the original novel, Pride and Prejudice, but in an alternative universe where zombies roam the English countryside. From the Wikipedia article:

Their presence [the zombies] alters the original plot of the story in both subtle and significant ways: Messages between houses are sometimes lost when the couriers are captured and eaten; characters openly discuss and judge the zombie-fighting abilities of others; women weigh the pros and cons of carrying a musket (it provides safety, but is considered “unladylike”).

The book also has a 4.5/5.0 rating on Amazon.com, with some very high-praise comments like this one:

Fans need to read this book tongue-in-cheek and prepare to laugh WITH it.

On a literary note, the juxtaposition of familiar classic and farcical horror makes for harmless, laugh-out-loud comedy. I applaud this idea and hope the “Quirk Classics” line hammers out more spoofs on stories I love.

Guess what we’ll be reading next? ;)
