The Ghosts of Books Past and Present

It’s that time of year again, Christmas is right around the corner and pre holiday gift panic has already begun. Although old fashioned, a book is definitely a timeless gift – whether you’re gifting yourself or someone else. And if you want something to read that will help you get in the holiday mood here are three great Christmas novels that should push you in the right direction.  I don’t know about any of you, but in my house it’s a Christmas tradition to stock up on cocoa and cookies and sit down to watch the movie It's a Wonderful Life. Sure it’s in black and white and has a good two shoes feel to it, but we love it all the same. Well behind the movie is the short story The Greatest Gift by Phillip Von Doren Stern who wrote it in 1943. Although the story varies somewhat, it is something to read especially if you are a fan of the movie! If you are a John Grisham fan you’ll be surprised that he has written a Christmas novel of his own: Skipping Christmas. This is an amusing tale for those who hate the whole holiday frenzy and you’ll definitely laugh at least once or twice! And finally, of course no Christmas would be complete without (you guessed it)the classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I’m a huge fan of his books – as I’m sure many of you are. Of course you could always just settle for watching the film if you don’t want to read the entire book! :)
