Tears for Pakistan

My dad has been doing humanitarian work overseas for 20 some years so when he handed me Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin I knew it had to be good…..and I was completely blown away. I found myself tearing up several times as I read the story of one man’s struggle to change the Middle East through education. This novel helps to develop a whole new perspective on the conflicts going on overseas and show the reader how big of an impact education can have on a society. It never occurred to me that education would be an excellent solution for combating terrorism.  Not only did the book give a sneak peek into some of the customs in Pakistan and Afghanistan but it also served to remind me of how fortunate I am. We become accustomed to viewing a good education as a right and too often forget that in some places in this world it is a wonderful privilege that very few get to experience. This novel is very well written and I’m sure that once you sit down with it you won’t want to put it down (I know I certainly didn’t)! :)
