Hamlet Fun Facts and Trivia

We’re quickly counting down to the release of our Hamlet poster on the 25th of this month and we’re pretty excited about it! Hamlet is definitely one of William Shakespeare’s better known tragedies and most of us find ourselves forced to read it in high-school or college, but Shakespeare can at times prove to be difficult leisure reading. No doubt, you’ve read Hamlet, but how much do you really know about this play? In celebration of our soon to be released Hamlet poster, I give you Fun Hamlet Facts: Hamlet is Shakespeare’s longest play: With over 4,0000 lines, Hamlet is a bit of a doozy. To put it into perspective, imagine that Romeo and Juliet is around 1,000 lines and A Midsummer Night’s Dream is about half as long as Hamlet. Whoa! There’s a Disney film based on Hamlet: You probably have very fond memories of Disney’s “The Lion King” but I bet you didn’t know that it has a bit of a Shakespearean twist to it! Rumor has it that this film is actually based on the story of Hamlet. Now we’ll all need to go re-watch it – just to compare and confirm. Hamlet is the most widely performed of Shakespeare’s plays: This isn’t really a surprise as your average Joe can probably quote at least one line from Hamlet off the top of their heads – even if they’ve never read the play. Hamlet is so popular, that it is estimated that every single minute there is a performance of Hamlet going on somewhere. Just imagine, right now someone is probably onstage saying the famous line: “To be, or not to be.” There are plenty of interesting facts to be found about William Shakespeare’s work, and now you’ve picked up a few of your own! If you’d like to take it to the next level and test your Hamlet knowledge, check out this fun Hamlet Trivia Quiz. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to pick up this play and give it another read before our big Hamlet art print release. Let the countdown begin!
