Vampires and Cannibals – the Halloween Tradition

This is the season to be scary and Halloween has just passed! I know of people who have been looking forward to yesterday for months and although gone are the good ol’ days when Halloween was really all about vampires, ghosts, and ghouls, and instead has become an opportunity to dress up like Katy Perry, Snookie, or whoever else seems to be the ‘icon’ of the moment. If you are up for some good old fashioned Halloween reading take a look at the following two books – which are also available in film version! Scare yourself silly and have fun! dracula-bram-stoker-book-cover Dracula by Bram Stoker is of course the classic vampire novel written way before vampires were turned into the lovable characters they seem to be represented as today. Count Dracula seems to be the Hannibal Lecter of vampires; intelligent, smooth, and vicious in an almost classy way. silence-of-the-lambs-thomas-harris-book-cover Speaking of Hannibal Lecter, Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris is a truly terrifying and suspenseful read. It took me years to gather the courage to even be able to watch the film, but I was fascinated by Hannibal’s cool an educated approach to his cannibalistic tendencies for long before then.  He’s the villain you are fascinated by and yet terrified of at the same time and I always get the feeling that he would be able to convince a victim to let him eat them. I’m sure everyone has probably seen these movies or read these books before, but go ahead and recycle them! You can’t go wrong. :)
