Vampires, Zombies, Monsters, Oh My!!

Has anyone else noticed the fad that has seemed to develop over the last couple years which involves monsters and classic novels? I first noticed it when I spotted one of my favorite novels of all time Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen wandering about on the shelves of an airport bookstore looking suspiciously different. I’m not sure whether it was the horrifying looking zombie woman on the cover or the title Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which prompted me to purchase it, but purchase it I did – and then I devoured it (in a literary sense of course) faster than a zombie would devour the carcass of a fresh….you get the picture. However, Pride and Prejudice is not the sole victim of this literary scare, in fact author Seth Grahame Smith has done another one by the name: Abraham Linoln, Vampire Hunter – because little did we know that beloved American president Abraham Lincoln was actually a lot cooler than anyone of us could have imagined. In an effort to not be outdone, other authors have also created their own mashups of classic novels; Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters is one example, although there are quite a few more. What do you think of this fad? Entertaining? Annoying? A little bit of both? Give one of these books a try and see how you like it! Enjoy! :)
