Matching Sherlock to Sherlock Holmes

Continuing in the same thread from yesterday, I matched up the second episode of the BBC series Sherlock with another one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. To me, the episode The Blind Banker incorporates portions of the novel The Sign of the Four . This episode varies from the technical aspects of the story but maintains some of the basic themes: mysterious signs, sudden deaths, a valuable treasure from abroad, and so on. This is also the episode where we become familiarized with Dr. Watson’s love interest Mary (which, ironically also happens in the novel). Do you think the connection exists between this episode and this novel? Or can you think of a better fit from among Doyle’s stories? :)
