My choice of film for this weekend was Steven Spielberg’s dramatic and historical Lincoln. I found the film fantastic and I loved how its main focus revolved around the journey to get the Thirteenth Amendment passed in the USA. Even better, I was left with the desire to learn more about the fascinating character that was Abraham Lincoln. So today I have done some research and come up with a few good books that can give us a sneak peek into the life of one of the most famous US presidents.
If you are looking for a book directly related to the theme of this movie, then Michael Vorenberg's historical book Final Freedom is for you! This work gets into the deep, nitty gritty details of the abolition of slavery and the 13th Amendment.
If you would like something that is more encompassing of Lincoln’s entire life, Lincoln by David Herbert Donald does a great job of depicting Lincoln’s journey from impoverished boy to becoming one of the greatest leaders in American history.
And for some lighthearted Lincoln reading, Andrew Ferguson's book Land of Lincoln comes highly recommended as a fun and interesting look at how Abraham Lincoln continues to permeate American culture even today.
If you have any suggestions of your own, feel free to leave comments. As always, we love hearing the opinions of our readers. Happy reading! :)
