Today is our first Literary Tidbit Tuesday! We'll be sharing some fun facts with you on a weekly basis and (hopefully) increasing your literary knowledge! For today, we will be looking at highest selling novels written in the English language:
1. Charles Dickens’ novel, A Tale of Two Cities, comes in first place! I must admit that I find this surprising! I am a huge Dickens fan, but A Tale of Two Cities never seemed to me to be one of his best or most influential novels. Maybe we should be happy just knowing that our beloved Dickens made the top of the list!
2. Second place is a little less surprising. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien definitely deserves to make the top three – it is one of the more famous works of our time.
3. And J.R.R. Tolkien takes third place as well with his charming tale, The Hobbit! Which makes sense; after all, who doesn't love a good dose of Bilbo Baggins.
What are some of your candidates for top spots? As long as they were originally written in English, they qualify! Let us know your thoughts. :)
